Bosnia, Sarajevo 21-04 – 28 – 04 Training for Young Trainers

Here is a short report from Koert, a volunteer from Netherlands, who spend one week in Srajevo for a european training.

This training was aimed to learn how to prepare and work out a good workshop or training in a in-formal way of learning. Also it was a good opportunity to share our previous experiences with other young trainers from Europe. This training was organized by the organization called SEEYN. This is an organization aimed on youth work in the Balkan country's. In the training there were around 24 people, 4 trainers and one reporter. Everyone was from different backgrounds and different cultures. We stayed in a luxurious hotel called Hollywood Hotel.

The week started with creating a good atmosphere in the group so we could work nice and hard as one the whole week. Then we made a beginning with learning the types how to learn and to listen and other way's of communication. Also we learn the most essential part of the training is how a group develops over time, and when something goes wrong how you as trainer can fix it. In the middle of the week we went on expedition to the city center to explore the culture of Bosnia. I discovered that there is a lot of influence from the Muslim culture in Sarajevo with some mixture from the Balkan. Aimed on the cultural learning we had also a inter cultural evening were everyone brought the food and drinks from there country, also there were some people with dances and presentations about there country. I chose Netherlands as my country because there was already a Bulgarian boy who talked about Bulgaria.

When the week progresses we learned more about the communication and group forming. Also we learned how to lead a group and how to make a program for a training or workshop. In the end of the week we had to apply the things we learned during the week in a presentation. It had to be about a fake training and how we would give this. Everybody prepared some games what they would do, a seminar or something else what they would do in there own training.

The last day we had an evaluation about what we learned and what we did. This evaluation was also to give feedback for the trainers so they can progress also in there learning process, because you know you never stop learning. Of course during the week we had a lot of fun trough games, party's and sleeping.
